DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to install, maintain and repair water distribution and wastewater collection system infrastructure for the Consolidated Government’s water utility. Assists Maintenance and Operations personnel in the performance of their duties. Reports to assigned manager or other designated person. Works with co-workers to provide maintenance support.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES OCCASIONAL HOLIDAY, NIGHTS AND WEEKEND WORK, AND 24/7 ON CALL DUTY. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, maintains and repairs water and sewer lines and related system components. Assists with the installation of new sewer taps, clears debris from manholes, water and sewer lines, sewer stream crossings, easements, and valve boxes. Inspects and evaluates condition of systems, diagnoses leaks, blockages or other problems. Excavates around water and sewer mains, cuts in valves, tees, and beds, saw cuts on driveways, sidewalks, curbs, and roads. Replaces service lines, performs confined space entries in manholes, cleans manholes, lines, changes out sewer rings and replaces lids on manholes. Perform utility related duties, which may include preventive and corrective maintenance on facilities equipment and grounds. Receives and completes work orders. Gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities. Picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, minor repairs and notifies supervisor on status of equipment.
Performs related activities such as:
repairs asphalt, concrete, lawns and other areas that are disrupted due to the repair work. Rakes and prepares lawn for seeds, hay, sod, spreads out pine straw and lime where needed. Performs general maintenance such as carpentry and plumbing. Provides assists when needed. Operates and maintains a utility truck, camera, shovels, sharpshooter, probing rod, jet hose, jackhammer, pipe saw, hand saw, chainsaw, pipe cutters, various hand tools, hatchets, machetes, post hole digger, trash pump, hand pump, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Adheres to established safety procedures, monitors work environments and the use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Uses protective gear, flags, directs traffic, places markers, signs, and cones around project or work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:

Experience:
No experience required. Incumbent will be trained.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Pump lines and related systems. Preventive maintenance techniques. Safety principles. Performing preventative maintenance. Performing general maintenance (i.e. carpentry, welding). Reading and understanding blueprints. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

: Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment. •This position requires driving a County vehicle•
