MAINTENANCE
WORKER MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled, unskilled, and/or manual maintenance/repair work associated with various projects/activities of the Acadiana Fairgrounds. Work involves maintaining the facility and performing upkeep on the grounds; preparing arena for event rentals; using tractors with front-end loader to work arena and grounds; supervising inmate labor on a daily basis; and building required pens and other structures. Reports to the Director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares arena for events as per contract requirements. Supervises inmate labor. Cleans arena and grounds. Packs dirt as needed for events. Supervises community service workers. Performs any necessary maintenance around facility. Prepares and builds various structures and objects in the arena to accommodate events. Determines number of permanent or temporary stalls needed for an event Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as measurements, staff requests, and grounds requirements. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as number of stalls needed, dirt needs, and maintenance of equipment. Refers to diagrams, previous year rental agreement, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as tractor, front-end loader, skid loader, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as carpentry tools, screwdrivers, saws, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Director, inmate labor, Secretary, event promoters/renters, event participants, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Meets with renters to ensure facility is prepared to meet their needs. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by nine to twelve months of related experience in building maintenance or construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate an automobile, tractors, a variety of maintenance tools and equipment, and a variety of automated office machines including a copier, typewriter, calculator, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to fifty pounds.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors.

Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documents, blueprints, purchase requisitions, change orders, etc. Requires the ability to prepare a variety of logs and reports, correspondence, change orders, purchase requisitions, etc., using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.

Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; to deal with nonverbal symbolism; and to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages.

Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract totals; to multiply and divide; to determine percentages and decimals; and determine time and weight. Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, and ratio and proportion.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using equipment; to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity:
Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. The worker needs to relate to people in situations involving more than giving or receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency.
