Examples of Work
The incumbent in this position performs a physical effort to accomplish a variety of tasks in the Maintenance Department of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East (SLFPA-E) under the supervision of a Levee Foreman A, or higher authoritative supervision, as follows:
35% Cutting and trimming grass within the Flood Protection Authority right-of-way, including, but not limited to, floodwalls, poles, dead-end streets, and trees. The incumbent must use gas/diesel-powered tools and cutting equipment. The incumbent will operate one or more of the following types of equipment as a primary, regular, and recurring function of the job, including but not limited to weed eaters, pole saws, chainsaws, lawnmowers, edgers, loppers, hand pruners, and self-propelled cutting equipment. 35% Cuts grass with self-propelled equipment. 15% Removes trash and debris from the SLFPA-E right-of-way. Operate all vehicles and equipment required by your position in a proper and safe manner. Secure a trailer and self-propelled equipment/mowers to jobsites in a proper and safe manner.
10% Performs miscellaneous labor duties such as cleaning of maintenance yard, washing vehicles, trimming trees, and graffiti removal and sandbagging where problems develop. 5% Fills and handles sandbags as required.
The incumbent will perform any and all related duties as required or assigned.
The incumbent must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
NOTE:
SLFPA-E is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPA-E’s mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish, and the east-bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water, and river flooding.
In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane / Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
