Job Description Summary Under the direction of the Grounds andTransportation Manager, the Grounds Mechanic services and repairsall types of Bentley owned and operated automotive and industrialgrade equipment. Repairs all campus vehicles, vans, and othergrounds maintenance equipment. Maintains automotive and equipmentinventory and documents all repairs and preventative maintenance inaccordance with all applicable OSHA regulations and establishedschedules and procedures at Bentley University. MEDIUM:
Standing,walking, lifting, carrying and reaching are performed on a frequentto constant basis. Bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneelingand twisting are performed on an occasional to frequent basis. Theheaviest physical demands are required during handling offurniture, heavier equipment, irrigation pipe, fertilizer, seedbags, etc. These activities require handling of 25-100 pounds ofload resistance on an occasional to frequent basis. Heavier tasksmay require the assistance of (2) or more co-workers. •
Schedule:
This is a 40 hour per week role, Monday through Friday. Theschedule can be either 6:00 am ??? 2:30 pm OR 7:00 am ??? 3:30 pm.
Overtime may be required during peak times.• Essential DutiesServices, performs preventative maintenance, and repairs all campusvehicles, vans and other maintenance equipment including: tractors,backhoes, trucks and electric carts. Services and repairs groundsequipment, which includes: power mowers, blowers, vacuums, sprayequipment, generators, weed trimmers and pumps. Completes necessarypaperwork in order to document all repairs and preventativemaintenance on all tasks performed. Maintains automotive parts andequipment inventory and oversees automotive supplies. Participatesin training to maintain and acquire knowledge, skills, andabilities to remain current with standard operational practices andrevised standards. Reports building damages, malfunctioningequipment, needed maintenance and/or repairs in assigned workareas. Responds to emergency call-in situations. Interactsprofessionally with members of the Bentley community. Inputs datainto the computerized work order system, recording time and workorder information. Other Duties Provides appropriate support inmajor campus activities including but not limited to: snow removal,freshman orientation, open house, opening/closing of school,baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate commencement. This role isconsidered essential personnel and would be required to be on-calland/or report to work during inclement weather events to supportsnow removal equipment repairs, as needed. May be asked to supportsnow removal (plowing). Follows proper clean-up and recyclingprocedures as well as observes all safety rules and regulations(including OSHA regulations) while handling and/or caring forBentley tools and equipment, to avoid injury to self and others.
May be required to assist other trades as directed by FacilitiesManager. Must be able to assist in performing a variety of tasks inthe following areas: carpentry, painting plumbing, electrical,masonry, machine maintenance, heating and air conditioning, firealarm and sprinkler systems. Performs all other related dutiesnecessary to meet Facilities Management requirements. Properly usesand cares for Bentley tools, radios and equipment. MinimumQualifications A minimum of 7-10 years of hands-on experience inauto and truck mechanics. Must have small engine experience relatedto the landscape industry. Must hold, or acquire within 30 days, aDOT card. Must hold, or acquire within 90 days, a hoisting license(10-ft or 500-lbs) 2B-1C. Use of motor vehicle required fortransportation of tools and equipment for job related duties. Musthold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver???slicense, with an insurable driving history as determined byBentley???s insurance carrier. May be required to drive a Bentleyissued vehicle. Must be physically able to perform the essentialduties and physical requirements of the position as set forth inthis position description. Must be able to read, write andinterpret documents in the English language, e.g. safety rules,material safety data sheets (MSDS), operating maintenance repair,installation and procedure instruction manuals. Must be able toeffectively interact and communicate with co-workers andsupervisors. Must be available for emergency and weather-relatedcall-in situations. Ability to work overtime during peak periods.
Preferred Qualifications ASE certification preferred, but notrequired. Welding experience preferred. Physical RequirementsAbility to squat, kneel and maintain bent postures from 5 minutesup to 10 minutes for a continuous duration, on an occasional tofrequent basis. Ability to walk on level, uneven and inclinedsurfaces on a sustained basis and climb steps up to 24 steps andladders up to 18-ft on an occasional to frequent basis. Ability tolift up to 25-pounds individually and up to 100-pounds withassistance, 0-72 inch height range, on an occasional to frequentbasis. Ability to carry up to 25-pounds up to 100 yards on anoccasional to frequent basis. Ability to push and pull againstresistances up to 100-pounds on an occasional basis. Ability toextend reach with both arms, from floor level to overhead, handlingup to 25-pounds on an occasional basis. Ability to manipulate smallparts, machine and vehicle controls and various hand tools on afrequent basis. Safety glasses with side shields, goggles, latexand work gloves, and hearing protection may all be requireddepending on the job task. Bentley uniforms and safety shoes arerequired to be worn at all times while working (shoes in compliancewith
ANSI Z- 41.1
). Work Environment May be exposed to seasonaltemperature extremes, including occasional wet and slipperyconditions. Occasionally working near moving mechanical parts isrequired. Close spaces, working at heights, and climbing bothladders and stairs should also be expected on an occasional tofrequent basis. Noise levels may vary from moderate to occasionallyhigh depending on the work situation. Bentley University requiresreferences checks and may conduct other pre-employment screening.
