Utilities Maintenance Worker

out of 5 stars 103 E Water St, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024 Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and provides manual labor for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction of water distribution system, wastewater collection system, facilities, and buildings. Drives and operates several types of vehicles and small to medium duty equipment related to the task assigned. Assist’s other workers, and independently performs a variety of inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction related tasks on infrastructure components, including; sewer lines, water lines, pump stations, lift stations, water plant, wastewater plant, manholes, fire hydrants, valves, pumps, meter(s) and pits, sidewalks, and streets; Will be expected to assist with repairs to sewer and water line leaks and work under harsh conditions; May perform maintenance and general housekeeping duties on buildings, grounds, and facilities; May operate vehicles and equipment up to 2 ½ ton rated, including; light tractor, pick-up, and sewer flusher; May use varied hand-tools to complete tasks; May read, record, and report readings of water meters, inspect and report defects, test, repair, or replace meters, and install or reset meter pits, raise, lower or exercise valves, flush fire hydrants. May connect & activate, or disconnect water services; Will perform minor maintenance to equipment and vehicles, including; operational checks, fluid level inspections, and cleanliness. May collect samples and perform minor or routine laboratory analysis on water or wastewater. This is only an “example” of work duties, employee will be expected and required to perform other job-related duties as assigned by their supervisor. Knowledge of the methods, practices, and standards for the maintenance and repair of water and sewer systems; Physical ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; Capability of learning operation and light maintenance of equipment and vehicles used in performance of job duties; Must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving history, and access to personal transportation; Must be able to clearly communicate in written and verbal format with co-workers, supervisor, and the public. A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Minimal experience as a laborer or other semi-skilled position performing construction and/or maintenance duties is necessary. Supplemental education, training, or familiarity with water distribution systems and/or wastewater collection systems is preferred and certification in either or both Water Distribution System Operation and Wastewater Collection System Operation is desirable. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class “B” minimum, and have the ability to obtain Class “A” within 6 months from employment start date, with a safe driving history and access to personal transportation.
