Job Description
This is technical level semi-skilled work assisting with the installation and repair of buildings, plumbing, electrical, commercial or government infrastructure and/or the operation of small trucks, riding power mowers, push lawn mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, light tractors, and similar automotive equipment requiring little or no technical training while working under the direct supervision of the Planning Director and/or Parks & Recreations Director. Assignments may be received in the form of specific orders or general instructions depending on the assignment. Work may be performed without direct supervision after instructions are received. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for conformance to established policies and procedures, and for accomplishment of desired result.
Education:
High School diploma or (GED) equivalent with a minimum of one (1) year experience with maintenance, construction, building codes, or related field.
The position of Maintenance Helper will include, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Assist with the erection of walls and form boards, assist with installation of joists and trusses, installation of straps, braces and ties, and assist with the placement of windows and doors in framework.
- Assist with the construction and repair of storm water drainage structures, including inlets, flumes, headwalls, etc.
- Operate and maintain power tools, hand tools and other equipment necessary to perform the work.
- Assist with the installation of electrical and plumbing for buildings (new and existing construction) and other facilities to all applicable building codes and ordinances.
- Assist with the installation of sheetrock, paneling and other wall coverings.
- Assist with the installation of suspended ceilings, lighting and HVAC ducts
- Assist with the installation of wood and wire fabric fencing.
- Assist with the installation of cabinets and appliances to new and existing facilities.
- Assist with the installation of wood, tile and carpetflooring.
- Paint wood, metal, sheetrock, and other materials with power or manual tools
- Operates riding power mower and tractor equipped with grass cutting and ditching attachments; operates push lawn mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, and similar lawn care devices.
- Identify and practice all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by Planning Director/Parks & Recreations Director and City Manager
