Grounds Worker 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 107 Courthouse Square, Oxford, MS 38655 To clean and maintain the buildings and grounds of the City of Oxford. You may be assigned to other city departments to perform various tasks on an as needed basis. Requirements The person in this position must have a valid driver’s license Purpose of Position To clean and maintain the buildings and grounds of the City of Oxford. Supervision Received The immediate supervisor for this position is the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent. Supervision Exercised none
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain city streets and sidewalks Clean alleyways Wash streets Collect all paper and other debris from city streets and sidewalks Parks Maintain city grounds Mow grass Weed flowerbeds Weed-eat Fertilize grass and trees Trim tree branches Plant trees Trim hedges Maintain city parks Mow and weed-eat grassy areas Put needed chemicals on grasses Water plants Plant grass and fertilize once a month Keep records of gas purchases and hours on machines
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Purchase departmental parts and supplies Maintain an inventory list of parts and supplies Receive authorization to make departmental purchases Set up seasonal decorations for the city Maintain the interior and exterior of city department buildings as directed Perform other duties as directed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge:
Layout of city streets Proper grammar and proper use of English in speaking and writing OSHA standards and regulations concerning employee safety Federal and state statutes concerning the work of the department Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication General functions and operations of municipal government
Skills and Abilities:
Work as a team member with other employees Meet specified or required deadlines Communicate effectively with residents, elected officials, other City employees, etc., both oral and written Maintain confidentiality Work autonomously when necessary Handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions Deal with others in a professional manner Maintain professional composure in heated situations Follow departmental and city policies and procedures Special Requirements The person in this position must have a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or its equivalency. Tools and Equipment Used The tools used are associated with operations of small equipment used to maintain lawns and gardens such as mower, edger, etc. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee.
