This position will serve as an Assistant Bridge Maintenance Engineer in the Division Bridge Maintenance office and is responsible for assisting the Division Bridge Maintenance Engineer with administration and planning of Bridge Maintenance Crew Operations, with Critical Finds, Priority Maintenance and Recommended Repairs of Inventory Structures; Purchase Order and Small Business Enterprise Contracts in the maintenance and repair of Bridge Maintenance Structures, Bridge Maintenance Budget and other duties as required. The applicant should use professional engineering skills and knowledge to conduct engineering investigations and determine repairs to resolve bridge maintenance and safety problems, supervise technicians in the inspection and maintenance of bridge inventory and non-inventory assts. Prepare and administer contracts. Must have knowledge of various materials used in maintenance and construction of various types of bridges, culverts, and pipes. Evaluate performance of lower-level employees. Effectively establish, communicate, and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, general public, vendors, and local government agencies. Promote safe working environment. Must have the ability to read and interpret bridge and roadway construction plans and analyze and solve difficult bridge maintenance and construction problems. Must have the ability to operate a computer using Microsoft, Wigins, and SAP applications. May require work during non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of Bridge Maintenance Construction operation
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems
Knowledge of engineering standards, policies and procedures related to transportation
Experience maintaining records, reports and writing memos and emails that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts.
Experience in reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts

Additional Expectations:

Position is subject to emergency callback during adverse weather and other extreme circumstances. Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are needed for this position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Necessary Special Qualification:

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
