  • Posting is for two Transportation Worker II Positions Nos.

60020499 and 60020548 located in the Division 8 Roadside Environmental Unit. You only need to apply once to be considered for both positions. Positions are located in Moore County but will be subject to work in all eight counties of the Division. Positions will perform a wide range of erosion control and vegetation management responsibilities. Work involves planting trees, shrubs, and flowers, seeding and mulching, plant bed maintenance, herbicide applications, installing traffic and erosion control devices, and snow and ice operations. Work also includes operation, inspection, and maintenance of equipment including but not limited to dump trucks, tractors, tractor attachments, mowers, and mulch blowers, as well as hand and power tools. Work will require exposure to all types of weather conditions and the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. Work may include lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly and exerting up 100lbs of force occasionally. This position is subject to emergency callback, scheduled night work, work during non-traditional hours such as weekends or holidays, adverse weather, or other extreme circumstances. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of vegetation management including but not limited to shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural practices
Experience in operation of pesticide applicator, truck, tractors, and utility vehicles.
Experience in correctly applying herbicides and pesticides in accordance with the label, as well as proper storage and disposal techniques
Experience operating equipment designed for all aspects of landscape operations
Must have a NC Pesticide Operators License with an endorsement in Ornamentals & Turf with the ability to obtain Right of Way endorsement within 90 days

Additional Expectations:

The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe footwear is required.
