Streets Maintenance Division:
The City of Jacksonville Streets Division maintains over 150 miles of paved streets, soil roads, and sidewalks along the street system as well as drainage systems within City limits. Maintenance Workers in the Streets Division play a vital role in maintaining the City’s streets. Some ditches, creeks and streams in the City of Jacksonville carry stormwater runoff from streets. The City of Jacksonville Streets Division will maintain ditches, creeks and streams to ensure that water continues to flow, allowing for proper drainage. General Description:
The City is looking to fill two Part-time Maintenance Worker positions within the Streets Division and are in need of dependable individuals to assist in performing responsible semiskilled manual work in a variety of construction, repair and maintenance assignments involving the use of specialized tools and small equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting hourly rate is expected to be in the range of $14.76 – $19.19 per hour depending on qualifications. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, drainage facilities and/or appurtenances; operating a variety of equipment and trucks. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Assists in the inspection, installation, maintenance, cleaning and repair of the City’s storm water system. The system includes, but is not limited to curb inlets, yard inlets, pipes, ditches, swales, outfall areas, residential properties, commercial properties and right of way areas. Utilizes basic carpentry, masonry and landscaping skills to complete daily tasks. Operates various light and medium powered tools and earth moving equipment as needed/directed by Division Staff. Hauls materials and transports personnel in Division pickups and dump trucks. Assists in the timely response/resolution to hazardous conditions for the traveling public and city residents. Such responses may be for dead animals in the roadway, ice/snow accumulation, storm damage/debris, glass/foreign objects within the road, overhanging tree limbs or other hazards. Required Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Some knowledge of the maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area assigned; some knowledge in the use of common and specialized hand and power tools required in the work; some knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
