Key Role:

+ Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility. + Work as a member of maintenance team in support of all phases of facility industrial facility equipment and systems. + Work tasks include preventive maintenance as well as repair services. Services are performed in support of research facility on a continuous 24/7 basis. + Respond to facility outages as applicable and tend to mechanical components and issues. +

  • Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility.
  • + •Work alongside higher-level tradesmen and/or independently on a variety of maintenance tasks; may include maintenance in electrical, mechanical, or plumbing.
  • + •Building maintenance and repair such as painting and simple repairs.
  • + •Assist in the performance of repairs and maintenance of facility equipment, motorized and non-motorized equipment and general facility maintenance; duties include, but are not limited to preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical equipment structures.
  • + •Operate equipment as assigned and directed.

Perform building maintenance inspection tours.

  • + •Organize, assemble, and deliver tools and supplies for maintenance task to work site.
  • + •Routine tasks such as delivery of supplies, grounds keeping and painting.
  • + •Assist in performance of road repair and maintenance.
  • + •Operate forklifts, tractors, mowers, light, and medium weight trucks.
  • + •In alignment with task will be required to utilize appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • + •Other duties as determined and assigned by department manager.

Basic Qualifications:

+ HS Diploma or GED. + Must possess (2) years of general experience in applicable crafts, with mechanical and electrical experience preferred. + Ability to lift 50 lbs. to work independently or as a team with minimal supervision. + This is a position essential to the facility operation. Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. + This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain the required security clearance or other authorization within the necessary timeframe required by applicable contract. Possess a valid driver license and must undergo required physical examination and vaccinations. + Shift begins and ends in Orient, NY.

Additional Qualifications:

+ Ability to become an active member of the PIADC Fire Brigade. Fire rescue experience a plus.

Physical Requirements:

+ Assignments may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, a variety of storage buildings and constructions sites. Work within the containment laboratory requires decontamination showers. + You must be physically able to move freely in environments that are restricted in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily accessible. Ability to climb ladders, and lift to 50 lbs. + As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near-contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.
