JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State is searching for a full time Maintenance Worker A (Office of Physical Plant) – Grade 5 – Grade 5 to join the team.
Duties include:
Install various types of floor coverings such as linoleum, asphalt, linotile, vinyl tiles, and yard goods, including carpeting which is installed with adhesives Install wall coverings such as ceramic tile, plastic tile, metal tile, composition board, and composition yard goods or tiles Cut, fit, stretch, and bind or cement together rugs and rug cushions and install on various surfaces Install acoustic tile, including metal suspension systems Cut and install formica on counters, sink tops, and student desk tops Cover steps and install molded rubber protectors Lay out work; plan work to expedite jobs; estimate tile needed; make accurate measurements for economical and quality work; cut, fit, and lay material for tight joints and neat appearance Maintain inventory of materials; inform supervisor when inventory is low Perform various jobs such as applying underlayment board or plywood, and applying cements using trowels, floats, or straight edges in the preparation of floors for the installation of various types of floorings Occasionally assist in estimating costs and ordering materials for a variety of jobs Cut, fit, and install various types of rubber or plastic cove base Repair cork or insulation in cold storage areas Detect unusual conditions and report to supervisor; maintain working area in a neat, safe, and orderly condition Maintain accurate account of hours worked on each job for job assignments slip Move equipment, office furniture, and other furnishings as floor work progresses Occasionally work from scaffolding to repair ceiling tile. Read and interpret prints
Job Requirements:
Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. 2 to 3 years of effective experience in various floor, wall and counter installations.

6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Days Off:
Friday, Saturday, Sunday
