GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

To perform a full range of maintenance and moderately skilled trade tasks in areas such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, masonry, road maintenance, landscaping, mechanical repairs, etc. at Department of Environmental Management facilities, grounds, and properties; and to do related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general directions and instructions from a superior with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment; work is reviewed on completion.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May supervise staff and/or other workers assigned to assist. Illustrative Examples of Work Performed To perform a full range of maintenance and moderately skilled trade tasks in areas such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, masonry, road maintenance, landscaping, mechanical repairs, etc. at Department of Environmental Management facilities, grounds, and properties To perform general maintenance tasks at facilities and properties owned by or under the control of the Department of Environmental Management, including but not limited to mowing lawns, raking, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, moving furniture, brush cutting, planting shrubs, transplanting, cutting, and pruning. To operate and make minor repairs of light equipment and vehicles such as trucks, tractors, mowing machinery, chainsaws, boats, and related equipment, as assigned. To perform moderately skilled maintenance and/or construction work including but not limited to rough carpentry, painting, masonry, minor electrical, mechanical, or plumbing repairs. To assist with the development and maintenance of public access facilities such as informational signs, kiosks, check stations, roads, parking areas, beaches, lawns, picnic areas, campsites, restrooms, bike paths, trails, fences, gates, water control structures, fishways, dams, and equipment storage facilities. To assist with pheasant stocking, check station operation, and fish stocking as needed. To perform snow plowing and salt sanding during and after weather events. To provide support to biological programs as needed. To perform other related duties as required. Required Qualifications for Appointment

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES A

working knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and processes involved in trades related to general building and grounds maintenance; a working knowledge of the operation of mechanical equipment; a working knowledge of the use of common tools and materials; the ability to make varied repairs without supervision; the ability to supervise a small group of workers or volunteers; the ability to work from pencil sketches and diagrams; and related capacities and abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:

A minimum of 2 years of high school; and

Experience:

Such as may have been gained through employment for at least two years in the field of building and grounds maintenance or a related field, with experience in landscaping, general maintenance, and at least two of the building, electrical or mechanical trades. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician’s certificate and must possess a current driver license. Supplemental Information Preferred experience with landscaping, general carpentry, or other building maintenance experience. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well with the public and staff. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service/and real-time problem solving strategies. Must be able to effectively perform and clearly communicate in a rapidly changing environment and have the aptitude to understand operational policies and procedures as necessary.
