GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The maintenance staff installs, maintains and repairs the facility’s building structures and systems, including plumbing, electrical wiring and fixtures, machinery, equipment, electronics, and grounds.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain/repair physical structure of facility in keeping with safe/secure operations of the facility. Inspect, diagnose, and repair machines and equipment. Install/repair electrical apparatus such as wiring or electronic components of machinery/equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to the preventative maintenance plan. Provide proper supervision and tracking of inmates/residents assigned to Maintenance Department Operates equipment, i.e., tractors, mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers and other power equipment as needed and assist in the preventive maintenance of such equipment Assists in all aspects of landscape maintenance including: mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, mulching, hazard tree removal and trash pick-up and disposal Performs routine inspections of all facilities noting needed repairs; ensuring sites are safe for public use Must follow all directed County safety procedures Performs plumbing and carpentry tasks Assists in all aspects of building maintenance including cleaning restrooms, office and facilities. Required additional training as assigned. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years responsible experience in general maintenance or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

OTHER REQUIREMEMTS

Must possess and maintain a valid driver license Must be a citizen of the United States of America Must be able to pass initial and random drug screens.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to understand, follow and direct written and oral instructions. Considerable knowledge of the safe and proper use and care of manual and power hand tools and equipment utilized in the field. Considerable knowledge of the potential occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for successful performance in the trade. Considerable knowledge of intermediate level mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, decimals, ratios and percentages. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schematic or schedule form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with coworkers. Knowledge of computers and software, Microsoft Excel and Word.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to lift, move or carry objects up to 100 pounds; ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles; utilize feet and legs or hands and arms; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or navigating narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces; bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs; move about on hands and knees or hands and feet; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; and to reach with hands and arms. While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, excessive noise, and dampness/humidity. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to possible bodily injury from electrical shock; and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery.

Salary Range:
