Function and ScopeThe function of this position is to providedirection and leadership to ensure the maintenance repair, andinstallation of mill automation and electrical equipment andfacilities meet department and mill objectives.
Duties andResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for developing andimplementing plans to ensure safety, quality, productivity, andefficient utilization of automation maintenance personnel. Supportthe operating departments by providing maintenance input onlong-term automation equipment decisions and maintaining theexisting equipment to insure maximum uptime. Arrange for supportingservices from outside contractors and equipment required to meetdepartment needs. Assure selection, training, and evaluation ofhourly and salary automation maintenance personnel. Performperformance reviews and salary administration. Provide input to thedaily and weekly planning to ensure work schedules and manpowerassignments are cost effective. Establish, develop, implement,improve, and monitor the automation preventive maintenance programto reduce unscheduled downtime. Support the operating departmentsby providing input to shutdown scheduling and long-term equipmentdecisions to ensure maximum uptime. Arrange outside services asrequired to meet department goals. Supervision and LeadershipExercisedThis position supervises four (4) maintenance hourlyautomation techs and two (2) salary engineers. Reporting andAccountability RelationshipsThis position reports to the ProcessControl and Automation Manager.
Decision Making AuthorityThisposition has authority to assign automation mechanics, makedecisions on equipment maintenance requirements.
BusinessContactsBusiness contacts for this position include all maintenanceemployees, Purchasing Department, Engineering Department,Production Departments, various sales representatives, andcontractors. QualificationsBachelor’s degree in electricalengineering and minimum three (3) years job related experiencepreferred or Associates Degree in related field with seven (7) toten (10) years job experience.
Knowledge of operation, repair, andmaintenance of automation equipment, drives, Allen Bradley PLCs,IBA, Virtual Servers (preferred), Networking (preferred), keymaintenance indicators, and pulp and paper industry.
