NATURE OF WORK

Supervise activities of workers engaged in landscaping or ground-keeping activities. Work may involve machine use, workforce coordination, and answering inquiries from potential customers regarding methods and material.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide workers with assistance in performing duties as necessary to meet deadlines. Recommend changes in working conditions or equipment use to increase crew efficiency. Order the performance of corrective work when problems occur and recommend procedural changes to avoid such problems. Confer with other supervisors to coordinate work activities with those of other departments or units. Establish and enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety. Inventory supplies of tools, equipment, or materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available, and items are in usable condition. Investigate work-related complaints to verify problems and to determine responses. Train workers in tasks such as transplanting or pruning trees or shrubs, finishing cement, using equipment, or caring for turf. Direct activities of workers who perform duties such as landscaping, cultivating lawns, or pruning trees and shrubs. Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements. Prepare or maintain required records, such as work activity or personnel reports. Monitor project activities to ensure that instructions are followed, deadlines are met, and schedules are maintained. Plant or maintain vegetation through activities such as mulching, fertilizing, watering, mowing, or pruning. Perform administrative duties, such as authorizing leaves or processing time sheets. Maintain required records, such as personnel information or project records. Schedule work for crews, depending on work priorities, crew or equipment availability, or weather conditions. Direct or assist workers engaged in the maintenance or repair of equipment, such as power tools or motorized equipment. Direct or perform mixing or application of fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A

minimum of 3 years grounds maintenance supervision Bi-lingual in English and Spanish (desired) Valid Florida Driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items necessary for grounds maintenance. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, or kneeling. Some reaching, sitting, standing, pushing, pulling, crawling, and handling. Must be able to access a variety of work sites for inspection.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General supervision is received from a professional supervisor who confers on difficult problems and reviews completed work for the quality of professional results. Tasks are usually performed under little direct supervision allowing the use of independent judgment.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision is required for ground maintenance workers.
