JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Associate Planner performs professional level work in the field of current and/or advance planning; provides information and assistance to developers and the public on planning related matters; and provides highly technical and responsible support to the Growth Management Department Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews residential site plans, accessory uses, and signage permits to determine compliance with local land development codes.
- Responds to citizen inquiries (telephone and walk-ins) and prepares correspondence in response to public requests related to zoning inquiries.
- Assists public with planning application submittals to ensure completeness and compliance with codes and ordinances.
- Confirms parcel identification, legal descriptions, research property, and verifies department policies and procedures, and enters into database system.
- Oversees processing planning applications for Planning Commission and City Council agendas; creates legal advertising and public hearing notices, and tracks applications to ensure deadlines are met.
- Assists Department Director with field data collection, documenting sites and posting for processing planning applications, and preparing reports.
- May prepare reports to the Planning Commission (i.e., Variances, Special Use)
- Assists Department Director with compliance and mailing necessary documentation to transmit applications to various local, state agencies and GIS provider for map updates.
- Sets Agenda for Planning Commission, prepares packets, and serves as Planning Commission Secretary by taking minutes.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree AND one (1) year of experience in development services, planning, or related field preferred OR
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Valid Florida Driver License required for local business-related travel
May require notary public certification
Working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) required.
Customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse community members and other individuals.
Organizational skills with ability to keep accurate digital and paper records and files in multiple locations.
Ability to analyze complex situations, problems and data and use judgment in drawing conclusions and making decisions.
Ability to handle stressful situations, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to work independently and with others.
