JOB SUMMARY
The Equipment Manager oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The Equipment Manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Director of Agronomy & Facilities and schedules and directs the work assignments of the Equipment Technicians. The Equipment Manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance of the building. He or She works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and his Assistants, the Grounds Manager and other Club department leaders to have the equipment ready to meet their daily and weekly plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES and other duties as may be assigned related to this position. Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course and Club maintenance equipment including diesel, electric and gasoline-powered, carts, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work on all Club areas. Instructs and/or trains Club employees regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment. Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work. Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies. Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment. The Equipment Manager creates and modifies a Cutting Unit Service Plan for all mowing equipment. Participate in weekly planning meetings with other department leaders to ensure Club events, projects and daily operations run smoothly. Responsible for maintaining and updating a comprehensive equipment inventory. Participates with department leaders and Director of Agronomy and Facilities to research, arrange demos and suggest potential replacement equipment for new leases and/or capital programs. Checks equipment daily for performance on the course, frequently makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use. Oversees the shop area maintenance. Regulates employees’ use of equipment in absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent. Works closely with Administrative Assistant to maintain accurate maintenance records for all equipment, fuel supplies and other items pertaining to the Maintenance Facility.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Club’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment. Regulates employees’ use of equipment in absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, if needed.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Equipment Tech is responsible for working within a set monthly budget to purchase all parts and accessories necessary to maintain the fleet of Club equipment. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED and five years’ work experience in golf course equipment repair and management; or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience. GCSAA certificates for equipment maintenance within six to twelve months.
