Summary The Athletic Maintenance Crew Leader is responsible for work overseeing and participating in semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance and repair of all athletic, recreational, playgrounds, or active parks facilities task. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Oversees and participates in the work of crews engaged in grounds maintenance, equipment operations and other tasks related to the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields at parks; perform routine monitoring of pool facilities and preventive maintenance of facilities including restrooms and drinking fountains. Assists in all forms of clerical and receptionist duties.
Assist in preparing and delivering needed materials and equipment to job-site; perform preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned; inspect equipment before and after use; monitor calibration of pool equipment on a routine basis.
Perform a variety of tasks related to athletic field maintenance, pool maintenance, including, but not limited to; operating mowers, trimmers, tractors, field groomers, paint sprayers, aerifiers, chlorinators and sweepers.
Assists in scheduling, assigning duties of work crews, and monitoring employee attendance.
Keeps records of employees’ attendance.
Transports materials and crews to and from job sites as required.
Checks condition of tools and equipment that have been issued to assigned crew members.
Keep inventory of supplies utilized and advises Athletic Field Manager when new supplies are needed.
Inspects work of crews to insure proper completion of tasks.
Report discipline-related work problems to immediate supervisor.
SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athletic Maintenance Crew Leader is responsible for limited supervision of the athletic maintenance staff.
TRAVEL:
The Athletic Maintenance Crew Leader will be required to travel frequently to worksites across Macon-Bibb County. Education, Training and Experience The Athletic Maintenance Crew Leader should possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least three years of experience in athletic field maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Preferred possession of a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License, Class A or B with no air brake restrictions to include a passenger endorsement.
Must pass a vision test for night driving.
Must complete OSHA training class on methods of protection against exposure to hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens.
Must be available for “on call” duties after normal working hours. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Athletic Maintenance Crew Leader must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
Knowledge of field and building maintenance methods and practices.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, hazards and safety precautions of athletic fields, small construction projects, playgrounds and general maintenance-related work at recreation facilities. Department of safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of athletic field maintenance duties.
Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repair, electrical procedures, custodial practices, landscaping, and equipment repair.
Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals.
Knowledge of the lining and chalking of various athletic fields (baseball/softball, football, lacrosse, rugby, etc.)
Knowledge of the maintenance, repair, and installation of irrigation systems.
Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions as well as communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to plan, assign, and oversee the work of crews engaged in maintenance activities.
Ability to maintain effective relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
