Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance and repair operations of FORTH Hotel, ensuring all systems function efficiently, safely, and in compliance with local regulations. This role supports the Director of Engineering in managing preventative maintenance programs, supervising engineering staff, and maintaining the property’s infrastructure to provide a superior guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Create a positive, energetic and respectful work environment within the department. Leads through example, professionalism, personal values, and vision. Provide temporary management support to prevent department disruptions. Eager to help, “pitch-in”, and to be seen as a team player among the staff. Management of the entire engineering department staff. Monitor the preventative maintenance program for the entire facility. Manage daily projects and capital projects as needed. Implement and execute the routine schedule of testing fire systems, sewage treatment and pumping systems. Oversee all mechanical systems and ensure are in always working order. Adherence to all federal, state, and local statutes including, but not limited to life safety, emergency, OSHA, health, boiler operations, etc. as appropriate. Performing light administrative duties, reporting, meeting attendance, and any other reasonable needs as directed by the Managing Director. Ensure all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety, operate efficiently and comply with safety regulations. Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program to extend the life of equipment and minimize downtime. Manage budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating vendor contracts and service agreements. Lead and train the engineering team, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations. Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas to ensure high maintenance standards. Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years of RECENT successful hotel management experience Possess a maturity and professional disposition to operate in our clients’ dynamic environments Creative and innovative problem solver Strong management skills and a proactive approach to supporting hotel needs Ability to adapt quickly and perform under high expectations. Ability to communicate effectively and work under pressure Ability to meet deadlines and embrace ongoing change Requires excellent organization, time management, interpersonal skills. Must be an ambitious self-starter with a desire to learn Knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments interact Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and capital projects. Familiarity with local building codes, OSHA regulations, and fire safety requirements. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed. Proficiency in maintenance management software is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, and work in various environmental conditions for extended periods. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed. Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
