About this Job
The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East (SLFPA-E) operates the regional flood control system and associated facilities in St. Bernard Parish, east-bank of Orleans Parish, and the east-bank of Jefferson Parish within its control to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events. The Maintenance Repairer Master reports to the Maintenance Superintendent. The incumbent must possess the skills to troubleshoot complex issues, be skilled in various trades and capable of using tools required to exact repairs. Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures and pipe systems to run liquid, gas, air, water and sewage lines. Exercises and maintains valves and relief wells throughout the area under the responsibility of the SLFPA-E.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
60% Serves as the lead worker on assignments and directs the activities of lower-level employees including maintenance repairers and trades apprentices. Responsible for troubleshooting and the repair of complex problems. Responsible for the planning, organizing, and determination of materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks. Conducts the quarterly operation/exercising of all valves owned or operated by the SLFPA-E and generates/completes all reports on the operation and maintenance of said valves. Inspects and maintains all relief wells/still wells owned or operated by the SLFPA-E and prepares reports associated with wells. 15% Inspects, repairs, and installs pumps for sewage lift systems, air lines, water lines, gas lines, etc. Interprets plans in order to complete projects in a timely and cost-effective manner. 10% Keeps all assigned equipment and tools in good working order. 10% Assists other skilled journeyman in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and spray equipment on herbicide applicator trucks. Works with assigned Maintenance Repairer 2, and trades apprentices by training and inspecting work performed. Provides feedback on quality and quantity of work assigned. 5% Performs other duties as necessary or directed by the Facility Maintenance Manager A or other higher-ranking supervisors or directors. Place and remove stop logs during high water emergencies. Make, place and remove sandbags whenever needed. Place and remove barricades and traffic cones.
Position-Specific Details:
The incumbent must have a valid driver’s license. Plumbing certification is preferred but not required.
NOTE:
SLFPA-E is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPA-E’s mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish, and the east-bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water, and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane / Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
