Job Description
Road Commissioner 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 1536 US Hwy 1, Littleton, ME 04730 The Road Commissioner is responsible for supervising and assisting the road and Transfer Station crew which includes truck drivers/laborers and equipment operators. This position is also responsible for road construction, snow removal, maintenance, scheduling, and the coordination and supervision of the work performed on the Town of Littleton’s roads. The Road Commissioner is also responsible for various administrative duties as required to oversee the work of the department—including, but not limited to: payroll records and budget oversight. Work is performed under the general guidance of the Board of Selectmen but requires the ability to work independently following established procedures and routines. This position also entails extensive public contact.

Road & Transfer Station Crew General Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and assist a crew of laborers/truck drivers in the construction and maintenance of municipal roads, drainage systems, and Transfer Station. Perform inspections of work to ensure conformance with specifications and standards. Supervise and assist in the following and related activities: repairing streets and drainage systems; placing, rolling/compacting, and grading roads; repairing ditches; landscaping and tree/branch cutting and removal; and culvert repair and replacement. Oversee the maintenance of all department equipment and vehicles. Be responsible for plowing Town ways with a crew in the winter, monitoring road conditions and weather forecasts during the day and—when necessary—the night. Participate in required training and certification courses related to job duties and responsibilities (i.e., NIMS, safety, erosion control, etc.).
