Job Description
Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Under general supervision of the Utility Operations Zone Manager, Power Plant Zone Manager, Power Plant Assistant Zone Manager and/or Director of Utility Operations, perform skilled work in the operation and maintenance of all Utility Operations systems at the Danforth Campus and all remote University owned locations to support the teaching and research mission of the University. Employee will perform daily operational rounds, perform corrective and preventative maintenance, and respond to service calls. An employee in this position may also assist the Night Mechanic(s) in emergencies when working evening/night shifts. Employees in Utility Operations are assigned to specific Zones but the assignment may change based on operational needs and/or management discretion. The Utilities Zone operates, maintains, repairs, removes and installs existing and future Utilities’ related systems, primarily focused on water, sewer, natural gas, site lighting, utility locates, and fabrication, including associated equipment, distribution, vaults, and control systems. This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO.
Schedule Hours:
Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:00 PM.
Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Operates, maintains, repairs, removes, and installs plumbing, electrical, and piping systems and equipment. Performs regularly scheduled equipment inspections, teardowns, corrective and preventative maintenance, and keeps equipment rooms cleaned and orderly. Diagnoses and repairs utilities equipment and systems in emergency situations such as water leaks, gas leaks, sump pump failures, power disruptions, or other infrastructure issues. Pro-actively identifies, communicates, prioritizes and addresses needs without direction when appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Job Location/Working Conditions Performs physically demanding, labor intensive work in hot, cold, dirty environments and/or inclement weather. Is available for emergencies after normal work hours. Works at heights, including operating 80′ or larger aerial lifts for lighting maintenance. May be asked to work extended shifts and in multi-craft positions and situations. Physical Effort The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds easily and consistently and be capable of extensive walking, climbing, lifting, kneeling, and other similar physical activities. More About This Job Required Qualifications:
Must have successfully completed a recognized craft apprenticeship program, a technical school training program (such as a Ranken Technical College two-year certification program) or other equivalent training program. Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver’s License by the end of the probationary period and cannot drive University owned vehicles until Class E Driver’s License is obtained.

Experience working on electrical and piping systems. Familiar with plumbing systems, including water piping, valves, and sewerage.
