Job DescriptionThe Engineering and Maintenance team enables our manufacturing operations to provide a reliable supply of medicine for our patients. The Engineering and Maintenance team members have opportunities to work cross functionally with many diverse areas including Biological, Chemical, Automation, Capital Projects, Safety, Process Development, Technical Services, Utilities, and Validation.

We are seeking a Maintenance Manager in Durham, North Carolina to manage a team of Maintenance and Engineering personnel. The Manager will provide direction and technical guidance to maintenance technicians for a capital project startup. In this role you will actively manage your team to reliably support customer demand (including employee development, routine coaching sessions, recognition, and performance management). To be successful in this role you will need to work cross functionally in a matrix organization, become proficient in the use of manufacturing systems, and knowledgeable of site procedures.

The facility consists of biotech operations including end-to-end processing of drug substance, drug product, including biotech culture growth, harvest, lyophilization, product inspection, and quality control laboratories.

Key Duties:

Employee Development /

People Management:

Hire, develop, motivate, and manage a team to ensure reliable manufacturing maintenance activities executionAssign yearly performance objectives for the team in alignment with department and site goalsProvide regular feedback and coaching to employees on work performanceProvide direction to the team as needed based on the team’s capabilities and maturityEnsure on time approval of payroll activities using site approved software like ADP.Process Execution /

Continuous Improvement:

Partner across the facility and cross-functional teams including for the startup and design of plant engineering, reliability, and maintenance programs for the facilityProvide a management presence on the manufacturing floor with maintenanceAdvocate standard work to drive consistent use of best practices across teamsRegularly help the team troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and maintain product qualityRepresent Maintenance on project teams as neededStrong sponsor for the problem-solving efforts and solutions offered by other shifts and teamsLine clearance LOTO and permit writing formaintenance activities, EnablonKnowledge of electrical maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipmentActively lead the daily Tier 1 process and participate in the Tier 2 as needed for short-interval control board

Communication:

Lead and support daily meetings to facilitate flow of information up/down through the organizationHold regular team meetings to cascade information and collect team feedbackProvide clear consistent communication from shift to shiftEscalate issues as needed to ensure the right support/awareness is given to issues as they ariseServe as a Subject Matter Expert during tours to provide area/process overview information to visitors/auditors upon request

Quality & Safety Compliance:

Foster strong safety culture on the team through actions, coaching, and prioritizationCoach individuals when reporting safety issues and completing corrective/preventative actionsDrive culture of compliance through actions, consistent quality-driven decision making, and coaching of the team (e.g. documentation, housekeeping, area 5S, etc.)Participate in safety and regulatory audits (i.e. tours, topic discussion)

Financial:

Coach the team to ensure inventory transactions are complete, timely,and accurate•Manage team staffing and overtime to support customer demand while meeting budget targetsRecognize and communicate opportunities for cost savings

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

High School Degree with six (6) years of maintenance, manufacturing, or military experience ORB.S. in Electronics, Engineering, Technology, Science or similar with four (4) years ofmaintenance, manufacturingormilitary experienceExperience working in a GMP/regulated manufacturing environment

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Direct leadership experience of maintenance and/or manufacturing technicians.

Safety focus in daily workClean utilities, commercial chillers, fire tube boilers/steam distribution experienceIndustrial refrigeration, controlled temperature unit (CTU) maintenance experienceCMMS experience, SAP and ProCal a plusAseptic manufacturing experience, preferably with biological drug substanceComputer fluency, including knowledge of BMS, DeltaV, MES, etc. is preferredLeadership and interpersonal skills to motivate direct reports and peers to excel and “own” theprocessCMRP, CRL or any similar Maintenance related certificationExcellent communication and organizational skillsFlexibility to perform various tasks to support the business.

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
