YOUR PURPOSE

Are you a skilled, hands-on leader with experience in street maintenance and a passion for making a visible impact on yourmunity? The City of High Point is seeking a reliable and motivated Street Maintenance Crew Leader for Asphalt Operations to coordinate and participate in a variety of critical field operations. In this role, you’ll supervise and work alongside a team of up to twelve employees in daily street maintenance activities, including resurfacing, roadway repairs, concrete work, mowing, and Central Business District (CBD) upkeep. This position also supports seasonal operations such as leaf collection, s removal, and large-scale cleanup efforts.
You’ll be responsible for leading work crews, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring projects arepleted efficiently and safely in alignment with City policies and OSHA standards. Essential Tasks

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Lead and participate in daily assignments with crews performing resurfacing, roadway repair, patching, mowing (including herbicide use), and concrete/masonry work such as sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
Perform and assist with maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks.
Support Central Business District (CBD) cleanup and maintenance activities.
Review job and project requirements with supervisor and follow detailed instructions.
Prepare detailed daily work reports documentingpleted tasks.
Train, instruct, and provide work guidance to subordinate staff;plete draft performance evaluations and review with Supervisor.
Supervise Motor Equipment Operators I, II, III, and brick mason; train operators in proper equipment use.
Operate heavy vehicles and equipment such as road tractors, tankers, lowboys, front-end loaders, trackhoes, dozers, backhoes, and tandem 10-yard dump trucks for maintenance tasks and transporting personnel/materials.
Oversee and assist in maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facilities.
Interact professionally with the public and respond to citizen inquiries or concerns.
Use hand tools including hoes, shovels, and rakes for various manual labor tasks.
Supervise crews during seasonal operations such as leaf collection, s removal, and storm debris cleanup.
Coordinate paving and patching operations to ensure efficiency and quality.
Ensure proper traffic control practices per MUTCD guidelines and City Safety Standards.
Enforcepliance with OSHA regulations and City Safety Standards and Policies in all work activities.
Qualifications

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

REQUIRED

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Must have at least two (2) years of experience in a Lead role and/or supervisory experience in order to lead, supervise andmunicate with semi-skilled, unskilled workers and motor equipment operators; to accept responsibility for self and crew to ensure quality work performed to City standards.
Must have at least two (2) years of experience with the following:
Operating heavy motorized equipment.
Semi-skilled streets/roadways related maintenance/construction work.
Maintaining inventory and the use of traffic control equipment.
Must be 21 years of age
Kledge of traffic and safety rules and regulations.
Comprehensive understanding of the equipment, tools, methods, and practices used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets and roadways, including related occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skilled in the use of tools and equipment related to the trade.
Ability to read and interpret as-builts, street location maps, and detailed reports.
Ability to successfullyplete training in street/roadway construction and maintenance, safety, s removal, storm debris cleanup, supervision, and other related courses offered by APWA, ITRE, or similar agencies.
Capable of working in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
Willingness to work On-Call as needed.
Certifications
Must be able to obtain Standard First Aid/CPR certification. Must have (CDL) Class A issued by the State of North Carolina.

    Must be able to hear over noise of operating motors and equipment to give directives or respond to employees’ questions.

  • The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.

Depth Perception:

Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects w and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances so as to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time and to operate the equipment safely.

Field of Vision:

Area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Must be able to see wide span of area to cover traffic and people entering and leaving the work area to ensure safety.

Amodation:

Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing up to check entire work area. Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly from equipment and the immediate work area to people or other equipment which are located at varying distances. Physical Strength

The Street Maintenance Crew Lead is exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. The worker will be exposed to weather, which is extremely hot and extremely cold, rain, sleet, ice, s, high winds, flooding, and fog. The position is best suited for someone who doesn’t mind getting hot, cold, wet, dirty, and sweaty. Hazards
The Street Maintenance Crew Lead may be exposed to trash, garbage, sludge, flowers, trees, grass, dirt, chemicals, fertilizers, mulch, debris and insects, dust, etc. and will often work in confined spaces. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens. Machinery/Tools/Work Aids/Other Equipment
Road tractor, paver, rollers, tamps, leaf machines, s plows, salt spreaders and brine application/manufacturing equipment, trailer and tanker, lowboys, heavy front-end loaders, tandem 10 yd. dump trucks, large dozers, trackhoe, pickup truck, dump truck, service truck, backhoe, tractor mowers, weed eaters, herbicide applicators, chain saws, concrete/masonry tools including but not limited to vibrators, finishing tools, hydraulic hammers, jack hammers, small hand repair tools, pumps, pipe saws, and other work aids associated with this trade and safety manuals, City Personnel Resolution, and operators manuals.
