$25.65 – $32.06 Commensurate with Experience SUMMARY Supervise and participate in the work of semi-skilled and skilled workers performing maintenance and repair of airfield markings, pavement repairs, mowing, heavy equipment operating, and RSA/TSA signage. Knowledge of FAA Part 139 Certification requirements. Work is performed under strict guidelines such as FAA and TSA, time limitations, and limited supervision. Follow guidelines for public safety, security, and customer service. Work involves considerable contact with the FAA, contractors, airline tenants, and airport employees.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Review, investigate, resolve, or make recommendations about requests for service or property maintenance needed, all while maintaining FAA part 139 and TSA security compliance requirements. Coordinate and supervise the daily use and maintenance of supplies and equipment, and make recommendations for repairs. Assign, test, and train on specialized airport-specific equipment. Review and maintain accurate records and work orders daily. Originate and maintain documentation for employee performance appraisals. Train new technicians in the Department and Division training, and provide ongoing training for experienced technicians. Maintain accurate training records for Division and Aviation-specific Training. Operate a variety of other equipment, such as loaders, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, dump trucks, multifunction snowplows, and airport-specific snow equipment. Perform job duties while complying with all MAT and FAA airport requirements and TSA security requirements. Perform Job duties in/on and around active runway and taxiway environments while following instructions provided by FAA traffic controllers and following airfield signage, lighting, and paint marking instructions.

General Information:

Works (3rd shift, Sunday-Wednesday 8:00 PM-6:00 AM/ 2nd shift, Thursday-Sunday 1:00 PM-11:00 PM). This position is considered essential and requires the ability to work other shifts and overtime when required by assignment, inclement weather, or urgent/emergency situations. Subject to emergency calls, back to work. Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and, therefore, exclude them from employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise crews of Airfield Maintenance Technicians consisting of AMT I’s, AMT II’s, and AMT III’s. Supervise crews of Airfield Maintenance Technicians who are operating airfield sweepers, water flushers, grading equipment, repairing asphalt and concrete pavement, pavement crack filling, FOD removal, airfield mowing, airfield painting and removal, airport-specific heavy equipment operations, and other miscellaneous duties. Manage and oversee various work tasks performed by airport staff to ensure division demand and responsibilities are being met, ensuring FAA, TSA, and MAT regulations are being followed. Monitor and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of assigned technicians by assigning, directing, and participating in their daily work. Ensure technicians follow safety rules and department/airport-specific regulations. Keep management fully informed about daily operations. Originate and maintain documentation for employee performance appraisals. Train new technicians in the Department and Division training, and provide ongoing training for experienced technicians. Maintain accurate training records for Division and Aviation-specific Training.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Graduate or Equivalent plus five years of experience 2-Year College Degree plus three years of experience

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for a City driving permit. Ability to acquire Movement Area Training (MAT) endorsement within 6 months of employment. Valid CDL-A with no more than 6 points or the ability to obtain within one year from the date of employment. Tanker vehicle endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year from the date of employment.

Preferred Qualification:

High school graduation/GED plus five years’ experience in general construction, labor and maintenance work or associate degree and three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. Supervisory experience preferred. Must be familiar with or have the ability to become familiar with the FAA part 139 standard requirements for the airfield environment, TSA airport security requirements, and the FAA part 77 standard requirements.

Knowledge of:

Considerable knowledge of the work performed by workers supervised. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards, environmental regulations, safety precautions or trade and the ability to enforce adequate safety precautions against such hazards. Considerable knowledge of and skill in the use of the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment related to the assigned areas of work or specialty.

Skill in:

Excellent organizational and reasoning skills required, as well as the ability to follow directions, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, complete projects accurately and on schedule, and maintain and prepare records and reports.

Ability to:

Ability to supervise, assign, and inspect the work of a crew of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled subordinates. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants, and the public.

Physical Requirements:

Spends approximately 60% of the time standing, bending, walking, and lifting. The remaining 40% of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, driving, pulling, pushing, lifting, shoveling, and carrying. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted. May operate complex construction equipment for extended periods and sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
