Salary Non-Certified Schedule Summary:

Under general direction, the position manages all technical and administrative aspects for a complex building trade, such as Electrical, HVAC, and Plumbing. Responsible for overseeing and directing the daily activities of the assigned trade involving the construction, installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of District buildings, structures, systems and properties. The position coordinates and manages small projects for an assigned trade.

Essential Duties:

(These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.) Supervises, interviews, recommends candidates for hire, trains, evaluates performance and handles disciplinary issues of employees engaged in the assigned building trade
Approves all work requiring permits for the purpose of ensuring compliance with applicable legal codes (e.g. building, health, safety)
Plans, assigns, schedules, inspects and certifies completion of work performed by District and contract personnel
Inspects completed job assignments for adherence to trade standards and contract specifications
Reviews work orders and makes recommendations regarding work that falls outside the scope of the shop and suggests alternatives for timely and appropriate completion
Performs estimates of time, labor and materials to be used on shop projects
Works with the contracts office to formulate contracts and ensure compliance with District contracting procedures; develops project specific scope of work, request RFP, complete work completion form
Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained for area(s); initiates and/or approves purchase orders ensuring compliance with purchasing guidelines; recommends vendors; oversees the ordering process
Prepares a variety of special and recurring reports and analyses reflecting daily operations and project status
Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety
Performs related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D.
7 year(s) of experience in the assigned maintenance trade with 2 years of supervisory experience Desirable Vocational/Associate Degree
5 year(s) of experience in the assigned maintenance trade with 2 years of supervisory experience Licensing /

Certification Requirements:

Valid Driver’s License; NC State Licensure in the assigned trade Knowledge / Skills /

Abilities:

Knowledge of methods, materials, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment used in the assigned trade
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes rules and regulations related to the work.
Knowledge of supervisory techniques and principles
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
Knowledge of basic budgetary and administrative principles
Knowledge of principles providing work direction and guidance
Skilled in oral and written communication
Skilled in handling multiple task and prioritizing
Skilled in planning and organizing
Skilled using computers and related software
Ability to read and write; ability to perform basic arithmetic
Ability to sit through the required OSHA 30hr training
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and the public
Ability to initiate trade practices
Ability to provide work direction and guidance to staff
