  • Posting is for one Transportation Supervisor I position located in Scotland County Maintenance and will supervise crews in the following functional areas: paved/unpaved roadway maintenance, shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation and pipe maintenance, snow and ice operations, and other operations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience in road maintenance and repair, as well as, maintenance equipment operation
Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
Experience in NCDOT snow and ice operations
Experience in Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices
Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew

Additional Expectations:

Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings; complete daily time sheets; respond to citizen complaints; install work zone traffic control; and operate trucks, equipment, and various hand and power tools. Position will be exposed to extreme conditions such as snow and ice, dust, extreme temps, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment. Must create a positive work environment with a team approach and be able to communicate effectively. Position will be subject to responding to emergency situations after normal work hours and on weekends. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol. Safety toe footwear required.
