Position Purpose:
The Fire Systems Maintenance Supervisor exercises overall responsibility for planning, scheduling, implementing, and reporting on the daily and special duties of the Fire Systems Maintenance Shop. Responsible for the supervision of full-time employees as well as subcontractors hired for special projects or to perform services not provided by the College. The Fire Systems Maintenance Shop is responsible for the performance or management of work related to the fire; life safety systems such as emergency generators and emergency lights; and associated work. The Supervisor maintains a current working knowledge of all trades under his/her purview, establishes safety, quality control and productivity standards applicable to each trade, ensures that these standards reflect best industry practices and are applied in the performance of work. In addition, he/she is responsible for assisting in the preparation of specific and annual budgets, overseeing the shop’s equipment and supply inventory,municating effectively with FO&M management and the Collegemunity, as well as building and maintaining staff morale and overall productivity.

Required Qualifications –
Education and Yrs Exp:
Associates plus 5+ years’ experience or equivalentbination of education and experience
Required Qualifications –
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Technical school graduate with a working knowledge of NFPA Life Safety Codes, fire and life safety systems. Or Associate degree or equivalent experience of life safety systems.
Eight to ten years of relevant experience; or the equivalent.
Minimum of five years supervisory experience required.
Must be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of the skilled and semi-skilled trades associated with operating and maintaining fire annunciation, fire detection, fire suppression and extinguishing systems, emergency lighting and emergency generator systems.
Expert knowledge of fire alarm and life safety systems as well as skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specification documentation required.
Extensive experience in estimating, scheduling and managing multi-trade projects required.
Working knowledge of all applicable safety codes and regulations, relevant building codes, and College policies and practices required.
Ability tomunicate effectively with direct reports, college personnel and sub-contractors required. Must be able to give and follow verbal and written assignments as necessary and to appropriately delegate tasks.
Work must be performed in a highly collegial and collaborative manner with other FO&M shops and College departments.
Willingness to work overtime when required.
Computer literacy and familiarity with standard business related software required.
Able to maintain appropriate documentation on testing and inspections utilizing appropriate software and/or paper filing systems.
Must successfullyplete and remain certified andpliant in all safety or trades related course work as may be required by the College.
