We’re looking for a Director of Fleet Maintenance to manage a staff of 15-20 and maintain a fleet of 25 Prevost motorcoaches (and support vehicles) at our state-of-the-art maintenance facility in Rollinsford. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who leads by example, connects with frontline staff, and thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment. C&J operates a fleet of modern motor coaches from our climate-controlled maintenance facility in Rollinsford, NH and has its business offices in Portsmouth. Summary The Director of Fleet Maintenance reports to the Chief Operating Officer and has the responsibility of managing all staff, inventory, facility space, and equipment associated with the maintenance and repair of C&J vehicles. This position oversees the C&J Fleet Maintenance team responsible for terminal upkeep & repair. This is a full-time, non-exempt, bonus-eligible position. Attendance is a mandatory function of this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coach and manage staff, set overall staff plan, define performance standards, expectations, and influence job descriptions for all staff directly or indirectly supervised.
  • Design, audit, and improve systems for preventive, unscheduled, and incident-response fleet repairs that control cost and reduce frequency and severity of mechanical failures & incidents for all C&J vehicles.
  • Ensure Fleet Operations Manager and Lead Technician are effectively prioritizing and assigning fleet maintenance and other shop work.
  • Leverage Fleetio software for all shop service-scheduling, maintenance record-keeping; optimize for performance management.
  • Develop and implement technician training programs,
  • Ensure all fleet maintenance activity is compliant with relevant regulatory bodies, including DOT, NHDOT, FMCSA, and OSHA.
  • Advise executive team on processes for vehicle acquisition and disposal for decision making; coordinate activity related to vehicle sale, disposal, acquisition, and related specification.
  • Develop KPIs for fleet and facilities performance and drive results against them.
  • Develop and refine blueprints for Fleet Maintenance procedures by leveraging software, SOPs, and other documentation.
  • Oversee relationships with critical third-party services and suppliers
  • Ensure every C&J vehicle has meticulously documented records, permits, and licensure required by any/all third-party agencies.
  • Oversee acquisition of large purchase orders, contracts, and service agreements
  • Keep fleet maintenance activity within pre-defined financial guardrails
  • Oversee and develop cleaning and waste disposal programs in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations including spill plan management
  • Directly supervise the lead technician, fleet manager, wash crew supervisor, and other fleet & facilities support personnel.
  • Effectively communicate to management consistent and clear fleet and facility updates/projects and process.
  • Serve as secondary on-call point of contact for critical fleet maintenance issues seven days a week.   • Extensive experience in organizational process
  • Valid DOT medical certificate from provider of C&J’s choosing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of troubleshooting and repairing defective parts in diesel engines with the aim of minimizing downtime.
  • Computer diagnostic system usage on diesel engines and machinery to determine issues.
  • Able to perform complex preventative maintenance such as tune-ups, front-end alignments and brake adjustments.
  • Well-versed in operating related machinery and equipment such as hoists and forklifts to assist in repair work.
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude aimed at carrying out repair and maintenance work on diesel engines with precision and in accordance with industry standards.
  • Special talent for handling operations in auto, metal, and body shops with an aim to keep machinery up and running constantly.
  • Excellent physical dexterity targeted at lifting and carrying up to 55 lbs. from one place to another by employing safety and following best practices.
  • Good analytic and problem-solving skills aimed at understanding mechanical problems, determining resolutions, and employing appropriate solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead and coach a team with energy, presence, and approachability—must be assertive, proactive, and service-oriented.
