Description About the Role “This position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to serve as a key member of the Field Maintenance Supervisory Team at John F. Kenedy International Airport (JFK). The successful candidate will hold a wide range of responsibilities, which include leading a diverse team of maintenance technicians in the execution of daily airfield and landside maintenance operations. In this role, the candidate becomes a critical part of ensuring that all activities align with the Port Authority’s priorities and operational standards. With responsibility for maintaining JFK’s 500-acre aviation infrastructure, the ideal candidate would have strong leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to operational excellence in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Chief Maintenance Supervisor, and the Maintenance Unit Supervisor, the successful candidate’s day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to supervising the activities of skilled and semi-skilled staff in a variety of maintenance disciplines such as Gardening, Housekeeping, Contract Administration, Structural, Paving, Masonry, Carpentry, Maintenance Equipment and Landscaping Service. Other duties include scheduling work assignments, administering the absence control program in accordance with various labor agreements and in-depth involvement in the airport’s snow removal operations Maintain accurate and precise recordkeeping, logs, and documentation pertaining to their unit’s work. Supervise the work of subordinates and train new employees. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish the needs of the maintenance unit. Respond to emergencies and assess maintenance response requirements as it pertains to any incident. Communicate information to key airport stakeholders responsible for decision making during any incident or emergency. Must be able to work coverage for all tour shifts. Required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Pr ogram Additional Information If a Non-PAMSA Employee is selected and accepts this position the employee would forfeit their previous permanent position and would become a permanent Port Authority FM Supervisor represented by PAMSA. Further details will be provided by HRD at the time of the offer. The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542, and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges. The selected candidate must be able to respond to declared emergencies, including snow conditions and work on an overtime basis as a regular function of the job. Must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position: The Human Resources Department has replaced the Junior Supervisory Assessment (JSA) with the Entry-Level Supervisory Assessment (ESA) as an eligibility requirement effective Monday, March 20, 2017. Candidates who are not currently in Pay Plan F competing for junior supervisory job titles must pass the ESA to be considered eligible for this bulletin. Employees can apply for the ESA through PeopleSoft Self-Service without a nomination form. Must possess three (3) years full time paid maintenance work experience at the level of Journeymen, Trades Helper or equivalent external experience. Must possess a valid NY or NJ driver’s license. Demonstrated knowledge of the CMMS system and its use to accomplish Preventative, Corrective, and Emergency work, including scheduling, work order updating, and labor management. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external staff. Demonstrated experience with the use of personal computers, including the Microsoft Office suite of tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc. All applicants must have completed the following probationary periods to be eligible for this position: Six (6) months in current assignment for all Pay Plan F and non-represented employees. Three (3) months in current assignment for all C-Level employees. These probationary periods do not apply to employees making provisional to permanent moves within the same level. All applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards. Applicants’ attendance and job performance records will be reviewed in accordance with Port Authority policy. Absences will be evaluated over a rolling 3-year period as of the closing date of this job posting. Candidates must have 3 or fewer sick absence occasions and 11 or fewer sick days in 2 of the last 3 years. Sick absence occasions/days related to IODs, hospitalization, and maternity leave are excluded. All other absences are included. Desired Qualifications Ideal candidates will present the following profile: Knowledge of PA policies, procedures, and union agreements. In depth knowledge of aeronautical and landside areas on the facility. Familiarity with key airport stakeholders around the facility. Knowledge of snow removal functions at the JFK facility.
