Job Description

Field Technician 3.2 3.2 out of 5 stars Rogers, AR 72756 Field Tech I Rogers Water Utilities is seeking a candidate to join our team. Entry level position focusing on maintenance, repairs, and oversight to the water distribution and sewer collection systems. On-the-job training provided.

Responsibilities:

Participates in the construction, maintenance and/or repair of the water distribution and sewer collection systems. Operates various hand tools, including but not limited to jackhammer, pick, shovel and various wrenches. Operates power equipment including, but not limited to, air compressors, jet-cleaning trucks, coring machines and various type pumps. Participates in traffic control. Performs heavy manual labor including, digging, lifting, and breaking pavement under varying weather conditions while exposed to dampness, fumes, odors, dust, biological, electrical, mechanical and traffic hazards. Builds and adjusts manholes, frames and covers, and sets roadway valve box castings. Removes and replaces various types of paving. Participates in stand-by duties, which involves working with co-worker at night and on the weekend to resolve situations that occur after normal business hours. Sets, reads, and removes water meters correctly. Makes water meter connections. Unclogs stopped sewer lines. Operates vehicles of various descriptions. Turns water meter connections on and off. Turns-on valves. Removes and replaces metal manhole covers, which weigh approximately 165 pounds. Climbs in and out of manholes of various depths. Complies with all rules and regulations in, but not limited to, Employee Handbook, AOSH Safety, Confined Space Program, etc. Demonstrates knowledge of safety rules and equipment including identification of precautions for and emergency response to biological, chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards, and asphyxiating, toxic and explosive gases and vapors. Operates atmospheric monitoring device in confined spaces. Performs tasks and assist co-workers with minimum of supervision. Demonstrates good workmanship in a neat and timely manner. Actively involved in team building, problem solving and cross- training. Complete safety training tape series. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

Equivalent to four years high school or GED 1 year related experience and/or training Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature. Must have a CDL (or be prepared to obtain one immediately). Must be able to obtain State license for water and/or wastewater as required by the State Must be available to work regular schedule from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm – Monday thru Friday. Must be available to work on-call (weeknights and weekends) as assigned. Must be able to represent RWU in a professional manner. If no CDL, must have a current Driver’s License Steady and Consistent Work History

SECURITY / SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

Based on definitions in the RWU Employee Policy Manual this position meets the criteria to be defined as a Security or Safety Sensitive position. As a result of this determination any employee working in this position is required to disclose to their Department Manager or Superintendent the use of any prescribed medication, including marijuana, which has the potential to impact the employee’s ability to perform the duties of their position.
