Job Summary The main responsibility of this position is the accurate reading and recording of water and natural gas consumption of utility customers on a city-wide basis. Work includes keeping records using a hand-held computer so that billing can be made properly. Ordinarily, the individual follows designated routes, receives specific work instructions and refers unusual questions to a supervisor for a decision. This position routinely uses specialized equipment for utilities services offered by City. Uses a computer for various applications. Work is performed under the supervision of the City Clerk/Finance Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Graduation form a standard high school or GED; some experience in work providing a knowledge of water and natural gas utility operations or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Hours are Monday – Friday 7am – 3:30pm unless duties require employee to report early or stay late to complete assigned tasks. Special Requirements

  • Some knowledge of the geography and street locations of the City.
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Ability to learn in house computer programs.
  • Ability to write legibly in English.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to read dials.
  • Ability to make simple mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Knowledge of use of small hand tools.
  • Ability to operate the city issued vehicle safely.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to manage one’s own time effectively to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public.
