DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This is a technical position reporting directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for performing all types of meter services and data analysis. Responsibilities involve the operation and maintenance of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) including installing, replacing and repairing meters, testing meters, inspecting meters, identifying and addressing data inaccuracies, answering questions of the public and addressing complaints. Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Provides skilled installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of AMI meters and radios; Inspects AMI meters and radios for data, accuracy, damage, or malfunctions;Cleans meters;Clears mud debris and other matter from meter cases;Performs preventive maintenance to valves and other AMI fixtures;Diagnoses and repairs water meters and radios;Conducts reads or re-readings of meters as necessary;Searches for leaks;Connects or disconnects meters or water service;Confirms meters are functioning properly and reporting accurate data to the AMI infrastructure, resolves data discrepancies;Safely operates and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment, keep work areas clean;Complete work orders and asset management of meter related inventory and AMI infrastructure;Investigates and resolves customer problems and complaints and assists to resolve the more difficult field customer service issues.

Explains meter readings to citizens, answers questions of a general nature on meter Readings;Effective use of computer systems software applications relevant to work performed;Understand and assist with the integration of the AMI system, water meters, and water billing software; Support and assist the Water Billing Clerk as necessary;Support and assist the Water/Wastewater department as necessary;Performs other related duties as assigned.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of Microsoft products(Smart Phone and Tablets);Knowledge of street layout and meter locations on assigned routes; knowledge of the functional operation of meters and radios;Knowledge of water and sewer laws, rules and regulations;Ability to use equipment and tools necessary for water system fixtures;Knowledge in using automated hand-held meter reading devices;Knowledge in performing mathematical calculations accurately;Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public;Ability to work independently;Ability to walk in various terrain;Ability to record meter readings accurately and input data correctly;Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(A) Two (2) years of experience in any meter infrastructure or metering data analysis related work experience

(B) Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT

Possession of a valid NYS Operators License.
