Small Projects Technician
SUMMARY
Assists Supervisor in coordinating activities involving constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing
structures, fixtures, and equipment associated with skilled functions.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform skilled construction associated with small renovation projects. Perform concrete work. This includes building forms, mixing, pouring, leveling, cutting, and repairing of concrete. Prepares a list of estimated requirements of materials, tools and equipment, including amount, quality and type needed for small projects, and presents for approval.
Maintains responsibility for all tools and/or equipment assigned by the Supervisor. Completes and maintains work orders through the district work order software to include labor and purchases.
Maintain a safe and risk-free work environment.
When not performing duties directly related to small projects, employee will perform Utility Maintenance Worker functions. Operate School District vehicles to conduct work.
Perform other job duties as assigned.

MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Establish and maintain open lines of communication with staff, public and outside vendors.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to read journals, manuals, etc.; to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures associated with assigned work.
Ability to document actions taken and results achieved for work accomplished.
Ability to use hand tools and instruments.
Performing a variety of duties: Involves frequent changing of tasks involving different aptitudes, technologies, procedures, working conditions, physical demands, or degrees of attentiveness without loss of efficiency or composure.
Attaining precise set limits, tolerances and standards: Involves adhering to and achieving exact levels of performance, using precision measuring instruments, tools and machines to attain precise dimensions; preparing exact verbal and numerical records; and complying with precise instruments and specifications for materials, methods, procedures, and techniques to attain specified standards.
Making judgments and decisions, involving solving problems, making evaluations, or reaching conclusions.
Will be required to read and understand diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals and schematic diagrams. Responsible for ordering parts, supplies and equipment from industrial catalogs and suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements:

Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License. Will be required to provide standard
hand tools to complete work within job classification.

Abilities:

Must have skills in several construction and mechanical crafts such as carpentry, electrical repair, plumbing repair, painting, roofing, and preventative maintenance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to compute ratio and proportion, and percentage; to calculate surfaces, volume, weights, and measures. Ability to use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices. Must present a professional demeanor that follows the District Code of Ethics.

Physical Abilities:

Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and
move and lift heavy objects.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent. Diploma graduate of appropriate trade school or technical college in plumbing with additional courses in plumbing and/or waste water systems is desirable. Five (5) years as a journeyman plumber. (Some experience may be waived by appropriate schooling along with demonstrated proficiency in completed courses.)
