Position overview:
At American Tool & Die, the Large Press Maintenance plays a vital role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our large press equipment. You will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems related to large stamping presses and auxiliary equipment. In this role, you will analyze machine issues, read mechanical and electrical schematics, and coordinate with production teams to minimize downtime. Your focus will be on maintaining equipment integrity, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Success in this position requires strong diagnostic skills, a deep understanding of press operations, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a high-paced manufacturing setting. You will be expected to maintain detailed maintenance records, order replacement parts as needed, and contribute to equipment upgrades or overhauls when required. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience servicing large presses, strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities, and a proactive approach to equipment care and safety.
Key Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance:
Perform scheduled inspections and maintenance on large press machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimize unexpected downtime.
Troubleshooting & Repair:
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues; carry out repairs or coordinate with specialists when necessary.
Equipment Setup Support:
Assist with press setups, die changes, and calibration as needed to support smooth production startup and operation.
Machine Monitoring:
Monitor press performance metrics and equipment condition during operations, identifying signs of wear, overheating, or malfunction.
Component Replacement:
Replace worn or defective parts (e.g., seals, bearings, valves) in accordance with maintenance schedules or urgent repair needs.
Recordkeeping:
Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment issues in the maintenance management system.
Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety procedures and lockout/tagout protocols; proactively identify and correct potential hazards.
Collaboration:
Work closely with press operators, engineers, and production supervisors to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimize disruptions. Qualifications Hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing large stamping presses and related mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems; familiarity with progressive and transfer die equipment is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently or within a team environment, with strong physical stamina and the capacity to safely handle and service heavy industrial machinery. Exceptional troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to quickly identify mechanical or electrical issues and implement effective solutions. In-depth knowledge of industrial safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), proper use of PPE, and adherence to machine guarding regulations. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and maintenance schematics. Proven capability to conduct preventive maintenance and perform complex mechanical repairs to maximize equipment uptime and production quality. Completion of specialized training or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, or related technical fields is required. A vocational diploma or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing technology is strongly preferred.
