Job Description

RF Technician 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars Orlando, FL 32833 The RF Technician is responsible for tuning, testing, and verifying RF filters and oscillators to ensure they meet customer specifications and performance expectations. This role includes working with various RF filters such as lumped element (LC) filters, crystal and cavity-based filters, as well as RF oscillators including TCXOs, VCXOs, and OCXOs. The RF Technician will also perform environmental tests to ensure product compliance with customer specifications.

Salary:

$18-$27 an hour (based on experience)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
RF Technician I:

Follow written procedures precisely to ensure product accuracy and quality. Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) including STEP-C. Comply with ESD procedures in line with company standards. Record data using computer or manual methods as required. Perform environmental testing, including vibration, thermal shock, and mechanical shock. Follow supervisor direction and collaborate with senior team members. Maintain a clean and safe working environment according to GMP. Use hand tools such as torque tools and calipers. Follow safe chemical handling and storage protocols. Use leak detection equipment (gross/fine) as required. Maintain an organized and clean workspace.

RF Technician II:

All functions of RF Technician I. Operate test equipment including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, mixers, and power meters. Tune various RF filters, such as lumped element (LC), crystal, and cavity-based filters. Set up basic oscillators for frequency and output power. Work independently in primary work area. Update tracking boards and floor queues. Assist in preparing work for Filter Technician I personnel.

RF Technician III:

All functions of RF Technician II. Cross-trained within the department and capable of working in other areas of filter production. Handle and tune complex, space-level filters and high-frequency models. Perform advanced setup on oscillators, including high-frequency devices with multiple SOT components. Troubleshoot common issues with oscillator/filter products (e.g., incorrect component values, coil turns). Perform comprehensive testing including IM, Phase noise, and testing under vibration.

RF Technician IV:

All functions of RF Technician III. Collaborate with process and design engineering teams to suggest improvements in throughput, yield, and product quality. Perform advanced troubleshooting for both oscillator and filter products. For oscillators, troubleshoot to the component level using schematics and measurement equipment. For filters, address complex issues related to grounding, test fixtures, calibration, and component values. Support other functions as required and mentor junior technicians.

No direct reports.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
RF Technician I:

Basic understanding of electrical and electronic circuits. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics. Proficiency in English (reading and speaking). Familiarity with computer systems and software. Ability to work well in a team environment. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Accountability for issues within assigned work areas.

RF Technician II:

All skills from RF Technician I. Ability to manage multiple tasks across different areas.

RF Technician III:

All skills from RF Technician II. Ability to quickly cross-train across test and tuning functions. Strong communication skills with peers, supervisors, and engineering teams.

RF Technician IV:

All skills from RF Technician III. Complete mastery of assigned procedures and processes related to oscillators and/or filters.

Education, Experience, & Training:
RF Technician I:

Associate’s degree in Electronics or equivalent experience (e.g., military training). Ability to work on ITAR-controlled data without a license.

RF Technician II:

Minimum of 1 year of technician experience.

RF Technician III:

Minimum of 2 years of technician experience with proficiency in handling difficult models.

RF Technician IV:

5+ years of technician experience with a deep mastery of RF technologies and troubleshooting.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:

Occasional light lifting. Extended periods of sitting, squatting, or bending. Walking around production floor or test areas. Must be able to obtain security clearance. Ability to work on ITAR data without a license.
