POSITION PURPOSE
Performs master craftsman and lead work associated with kitchen/refrigeration systems. Performs master craftsman level work associated with refrigeration equipment including coolers, freezers, and related kitchen/refrigeration systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND
ABILITIES
(KSAs) Considerable knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, and hot and cold side food service equipment; Considerable knowledge of heating, ventilation and refrigeration theory; Considerable knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment design and food services equipment; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps; Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards; Critical thinking and problem solving skills; Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction; Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on commercial kitchen systems; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent; Five years of experience directly related to HVAC and refrigeration systems installation and repair.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Type I, II, and III chlorofluorocarbon CFC Certification; Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements; Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates Degree or technical school training in HVACR Systems; Hold a valid HVAC and Refrigeration License determined by the North Carolina Board of HVAC Examiners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with refrigeration/kitchen systems, materials, equipment and fixtures. Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in various types of food service (kitchen) and refrigeration systems. Responds to assigned work orders relating to kitchen/refrigeration; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution. Replaces faulty or defective Kitchen equipment and systems. Repairs, replaces, or calibrates controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed. Adheres to laws, regulations, and requirements set forth in the WCPSS Safety procedures/policies. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all child nutrition (kitchen) systems throughout the school system Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in an indoor and school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment.
