Sewer Technician 1 – Town of Waterford – Full Time 3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 1000 Hartford Turnpike, Waterford, CT 06385 The Town of Waterford Utility Commission is searching for a Sewer Technician 1. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. Open until filled

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Maintain wastewater collection infrastructure system facilities and assist Maintenance Operator.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS

Assist Maintenance Operator pump stations with the repair and maintenance of equipment including: hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical operating systems and components; heating and ventilation units; operation of sewer main cleaning equipment. Assist in repair of grinder pumps. Daily cleaning of maintenance buildings. Check vehicles for supplies. Low echelon vehicle maintenance. Grounds maintenance. Ability to interact with customers in a professional manner. Troubleshoot grinder pumps and panels in private residences. Make repairs, if needed. Rebuild pump station components. Wire and install electric motors – 240 volts. Calibrate gas detection equipment and maintenance thereof. Troubleshoot and repair radio telemetry systems. Maintenance and repair of groundskeeping equipment. Operate and interact with, numerous PLCs/CPUs located in pump stations. Responsible for the W.V.C. system, when on call; make critical decisions and act upon them. Perform the duties of Maintainer I and other related duties as assigned. •The essential duties/functions described above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(Knowledge, Skill & Ability) Knowledge and ability in building and grounds maintenance, Mechanical and electrical aptitude and a valid motor vehicle license. Some basic computer background and knowledge.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in trades, i.e., plumbing, mechanical or electrical. Have and maintain Commercial Drivers’ License B (CDL) with an “N” (Tank) endorsement or ability to obtain same within one (1) year of appointment. Confined Space Entry certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of appointment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl, often in awkward positions and in confined areas. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. and be able to climb ladders and stand on concrete floors for the work period. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to work in ail weather conditions, confined areas, work with chemicals and breathing apparatus. Subject to 24-hour call and response time of 15 minutes.
