GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Installs, repairs and maintains water metering devices; connects and disconnects service.

EXAMPLES OF WORK
  • Replaces malfunctioning meters and associated components; ensures the accuracy of readings.
  • Installs and upgrades new meter sets, meter components, and programs transmitters.
  • Inspects meters for tampering, malfunctions or operational deficiencies.
  • Troubleshoots potential meter/transmitter issues.
  • Repairs water service lines and associated components.
  • Replaces damaged meter boxes and lids.
  • Replaces/repairs damaged transmitters and wires.
  • Locates and uncovers buried meters.
  • Performs meter testing to ensure accuracy of meter readings.
  • Assists with backflow prevention assembly inspection/testing.
  • Evaluates parts/pieces needed to perform large meter exchanges.
  • Coordinates available material and equipment needed to perform large meter exchanges.
  • Assists in training and instructing new staff in methods and procedures.
  • Clears mud and debris from meter cases and improves device positioning to improve access.
  • Generates work orders utilizing computer systems.
  • Records and documents meter readings during the meter set/exchange process.
  • Assists with disconnections due to emergency or non-payment.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience:

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years’ experience in plumbing repairs and/or maintenance service work; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Meter device installation, repair, replacement, reading, connections and disconnections is preferred. Knowledge of Okaloosa County roads is preferred. Licenses and/or

Certifications:

Requires a valid driver license. Requires possession of a Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License issued by the State of Florida, or the ability to pass the Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator exam within 18 months from date of hire.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to operate hand-held electronic equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to walk several miles each day. May be exposed to confined spaces (e.g., meter vaults). Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Requires the ability to reach, extending hand(s) in any directions; and the ability to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s).
