05/05/2025 JOB SUMMARY This position participates in meter reading and other technical meter functions.

MAJOR DUTIES

Reads water meters and performs related functions. Connects and disconnect water service at the meter. Checks high readings or over-reads. Removes and replaces meters; checks meters for leaks. Meets with customers to resolve problems as needed. Maintains assigned vehicle. Performs all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of related policies, procedures, and operating standards. Knowledge of water meter operations. Knowledge of safe work practices. Skill in the collection of meter data. Skill in opening and closing meter valves. Skill in maintaining and performing routine repairs on all assigned equipment. Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Utility Meter Coordinator assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related meter reading and other technical duties. Inclement field conditions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to participate in meter reading related meter operations. Success in this position contributes to accuracy of meter data and customer billing.

CONTACTS

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, customers, and the general public. Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, and grease.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required. More than two years of related experience required. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
