  • The Challenge
  • We’re looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Wilkes County Traffic Services team.

In this role, you will

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical electronic traffic control systems, lighted signs, and roadway lighting
  • Install traffic signal equipment by wiring/installing signal heads, wiring detectors, install and wire controllers
  • Trace out electrical wiring diagrams
  • Locate trouble and replaces worn/faulty parts
  • Dismantle, reassemble, and test traffic control systems
  • Supervise helpers
  • Re-lamp/repair roadway light fixtures
  • Troubleshoot and repair roadway lighting control cabinets.
  • What You Bring
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials, and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trade
  • Ability to diagnose sources of equipment failures and repair/maintain complex electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components
  • Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision
  • Experience and ability to work effectively in varied environmental conditions, including extreme cold and hot outside conditions, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction
  • Strength to lift up to 85+ pounds to shoulder height
  • Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 50 feet in height
  • Communication skills to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment
  • Fitness to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices
  • A Class B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Safety toe shoes.

  • Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callbacks. While on callback rotation, you will be required to
  • return to the Traffic Unit Office in North Wilkesboro within 30 minutes.
  • You may be required to work during non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights and times of emergencies
  • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 3 years about controlled substance and alcohol
  • We may require appropriate licensure by a governing board or commission.
  • Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
  • 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
