- The Challenge
- We’re looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Wilkes County Traffic Services team.
In this role, you will
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical electronic traffic control systems, lighted signs, and roadway lighting
- Install traffic signal equipment by wiring/installing signal heads, wiring detectors, install and wire controllers
- Trace out electrical wiring diagrams
- Locate trouble and replaces worn/faulty parts
- Dismantle, reassemble, and test traffic control systems
- Supervise helpers
- Re-lamp/repair roadway light fixtures
- Troubleshoot and repair roadway lighting control cabinets.
- What You Bring
- General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials, and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trade
- Ability to diagnose sources of equipment failures and repair/maintain complex electrical equipment
- Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components
- Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code
- Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision
- Experience and ability to work effectively in varied environmental conditions, including extreme cold and hot outside conditions, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction
- Strength to lift up to 85+ pounds to shoulder height
- Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 50 feet in height
- Communication skills to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment
- Fitness to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices
- A Class B Commercial Driver’s License
- Safety toe shoes.

- Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callbacks. While on callback rotation, you will be required to
- return to the Traffic Unit Office in North Wilkesboro within 30 minutes.
- You may be required to work during non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights and times of emergencies
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 3 years about controlled substance and alcohol
- We may require appropriate licensure by a governing board or commission.
- Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, and
- 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
