A.

General Job Description:

It is the responsibility of the Public Safety Telecommunicator to receive calls for emergency and non-emergency services, prioritize calls; dispatch law enforcement or other appropriate response vehicles; operate a computer-aided dispatch system and computerized electronics communication system; monitor radio traffic; and monitor the location information of law enforcement personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to pass an oral interview board, pre-employment physical including drug screening, and background investigation.

Diploma from high school or equivalent required.

Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid Florida driver license.

Must possess or have ability to acquire familiarity with the operation and functions of the Communications Center.

Must have ability to type at least 35 words per minute.

Must be able to obtain 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification, granted by the Florida Department of Health, within twelve months of employment.

Prior experience is preferred, but not required.

Essential Functions:
  • 1.

Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls via 911, and non-emergency calls from the public and law enforcement agencies via telephone and radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.2.Processes and evaluates information received, and dispatches required units and/or agencies.3.Monitors and coordinates law enforcement unit activity and assignments via radio communication.4.Answers all requests in a prompt, pleasant and professional manner.5.Maintains status and locations of public safety personnel.6.Utilizes technology such as computers, radio systems, telephones and other communication equipment.7.Creates and maintains automated or manual logs of law enforcement communications activity.8.Accesses and enters sensitive data in local/state/national databases as necessary for investigative purposes.9.Enters and maintains files for person(s) or property pending apprehension/recovery.10.Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties.11.Knows, understands and complies with the General Orders, and Standard Operating Procedures of the Sheriff’s Office.12.May assist in providing on-the-job training for law enforcement communications officers and submit progress reports and evaluations on trainees.13.Maintains all assigned equipment, reporting inoperable equipment to his/her supervisor.14.Maneuvers through the Records Management System for the purpose of obtaining requested information.15.Navigates the filing systems for the purpose of

entries and obtaining requested information.16.Prepares paperwork associated with warrants issued locally and by other jurisdictions as directed.17.Makes/Maintains entries into the

database.18.Performs any additional duties that may be required by the Sheriff, a supervisor or through the necessity of situations.
