Overview Rhode Island Energy, a PPL Services company, is hiring an Entry-Level Telecommunications Technician. In this role, you’ll install, maintain, and troubleshoot systems like two-way radios, microwave, fiber optics, SCADA, and metering equipment. You’ll also support communication gear in vehicles, tower sites, and facilities—while interpreting technical diagrams and maintaining accurate documentation. Responsibilities Job Responsibilities Required to work a reasonable amount of planned and emergency overtime. Required to be part of technician on-call rotation. Required to work in all types of weather. Required to work with outside vendors. Perform other miscellaneous duties assigned by the supervisor. Install, construct, configure, modify, operate, test, troubleshoot and maintain various types of electronic / electrical systems and equipment including wireless (two-way radio / microwave), Fiber optics, SCADA, and metering. Install, Maintain and troubleshoot communication equipment associated with fleet vehicles, communication tower sites and company facilities Interpret technical diagrams, instructions, and scope documents. Maintain and produce various detailed, legible and accurate documentation Safely and effectively use all tools/equipment assigned or required. Attend and satisfactorily complete training in multiple types of electronic/electrical systems, equipment and procedures Qualifications Required Qualifications Minimum of an associate’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited program Must Have or obtain technical certification (e.g. FCC General Class License; PCIA or APCO Technician Certificate; CET Journeyman Certificate w/Communications endorsement; or equivalent) within 12 months of hire date. Must obtain DOT medical card within 12 months of hire date. Must Be willing and able to advance to the position of Senior Technician. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot using simple and complex test equipment, schematics, logic diagrams and instruction manuals. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude for fine work. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills. Provide an acceptable means of off-hour contact. Must Possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements Must be in good physical condition to drive and work in all weather conditions. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders; may be required to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, or squat for extended periods of time; may be required to work at heights exceeding 100ft. May be required to lift and carry items up to fifty (50) pounds. #RIE #INDRIE
