Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the IT Technician, the part-time Videography Equipment Technician provides direct technical support for academic, administrative, research, media, and professional practice technologies within the College of Communication and Information (CCI). This role involves managing the equipment room, tracking overdue equipment, overseeing event setups and troubleshooting equipment in CCI event spaces, creating room setup layouts, directing student employees, and providing classroom troubleshooting. The Videography Equipment Technician is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week. The schedule is to be determined by need and availability. Responsibilities
Oversee the CCI Equipment Room used for students to check out photography and videography equipment for coursework and student media organizations.
Monitor and track overdue equipment to ensure timely returns.
Make recommendations for items that need repair or replacement.
Identify issues or potential issues as equipment is returned.
Train and provide work direction to equipment room student workers.
Maintain an inventory of all items in the equipment room using the college’s inventory management system.
Flag items that need attention, and add or remove items from the inventory as needed.
Provide first-line support/training/troubleshooting (via phone, email, or in-person) to college faculty and staff for issues with videography and photography equipment.
Supervise student workers on the end-user support team to ensure high-quality service.
Train students on troubleshooting within CCI’s event spaces.
Provide basic support for computer, printer, networking, technology-enhanced classrooms, and other technology hardware and software issues.
Coordinate with event managers on scheduling, setup, and event logistics.
Troubleshoot time-critical malfunctions of audio/visual components.
Set up web/video/audio conferencing technologies independently.
Pack or load equipment from transport.
Assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Background in videography, photography, or IT helpdesk roles.
Knowledge of cameras, microphones, lenses, and other photography, videography, and A/V equipment.
Basic knowledge of computer operating systems concepts and network programming.
Written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office usage and troubleshooting.
Time-management skills.
Ability to work independently on projects.
Ability to maintain calm under job demands and prioritize issues for support.
Ability to work in a team environment at the college and campus level.
Excellent customer service skills via phone, email or in person.
Ability to document processes and procedures.
Ability to motivate, mentor, and supervise student employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
1-3 years of experience with videography, photography, or general AV equipment, including cameras, lenses, microphones, etc.
Knowledge of the Communication and Media fields.
Skills in imaging software, trouble ticket tracking, database administration.
Skills in configuring computer hardware/software/servers.
Ability to document/explain (or train) highly technical information to end users.
Ability to train/cross-train other staff/faculty on technology.

On-site in Knoxville, TN.

Compensation and Benefits:

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $20 per hour depending on the selected candidate’s experience, qualifications, and suitability.
