Overview & Responsibilities:
The Marine/Service Technician is responsible for the repair and overhaul of boats, yachts and their machinery Must be an experienced Mercury Marine Technician, the ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of verifiable Mercury Marine experience and certification as well as a master skill level working on inboard and outboard motors. The technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and installations as efficiently as possible while ensuring quality work. Keeping work area, tools and service units clean and organized. Performing proper diagnostic procedures Staying within approved time frame & communicating delays with the service manager. Documenting and communicating any additional work needed. Tagging and storing warranty parts properly. Submitting a complete parts request to the parts department with all unit information.
- Diagnose, test, repair, replace, remove, and install marine engines, ship’s systems, electronics and electrical equipment.
- Mechanical knowledge of gas and diesel engines
- Propeller, Shafts, Bow Thrusters and all Running gear knowledge
- Assess projects, budget time, determine/source parts required
- Ability to commission all types of vessels
- Examine boat and discuss the nature and extent of damage or malfunction with the service writer, yard manager or customer.
- Perform diagnostics and repair of all types of marine engines not under manufactures warranty, hydraulic systems, pumps, fresh, grey and black water systems, steering, running gear, shafts, props, alignments, shaft/ rudder seals, water makers and electrical components
- Performing proper repair procedures, Performing a quality check on each repair
- Assisting the service manager explaining work to customers or getting an explanation of customer’s concern when communication is challenged
- Striving for 100% customer satisfaction by repairing items right the first time
- Assist customer inquiries over the phone and in person
- Understand and comply with federal, state, and local regulations and standards involving safety requirements, hazardous waste, OSHA, etc.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least two (2) year of experience in administrative support and/or customer service
- MUST have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in marine industry or boating is required
- Experience with Mercnet and G3 is a must
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check
- Install and repair accessories such as radios, ac/dc systems and deck equipment
- Operate a hydraulic jack or hoist as needed.
- Complete repair work within the established timeframe
- Safely operate customer vessels during diagnostic water testing operations
- Maintain tools in good condition and according to guidelines
- Other duties as assigned

- 5 years min experience in the marine trades or similar
- Licenses or certifications are a must!
- Efficient knowledge and mechanical skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Detail oriented
- Capable of working in a fast paced service shop and marina
- Valid driver’s license
- High School diploma or equivalent
- ABYC, and manufacturer certifications an advantage
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work unsupervised
- Customer service experience
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be comfortable working in small tight spaces
- Must be able to crawl, kneel, sit, stand and climb for long periods of time
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions
