G/LTE Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Tower Technician III – Tophand plays a critical role in wireless communications infrastructure deployment and maintenance. As a Tophand, you are the right hand to the Foreman, responsible for leading crews in the field, ensuring the quality and safety of work performed on wireless towers, and mentoring junior technicians. This role requires advanced climbing skills, technical proficiency in cellular site installation and upgrades, and leadership ability.
Key Responsibilities:
Climb towers up to 500 feet or more to install, troubleshoot, and maintain wireless equipment and antennas. Assist the Foreman in executing job plans, managing day-to-day tasks, and ensuring timelines are met. Lead and mentor lower-level technicians (Tower Tech I/II), promoting safety and skill development. Install, test, and troubleshoot various RF components, including coax, antennas, mounts, TMA, and fiber. Perform sweep testing, PIM testing, and site audits as required. Ensure proper rigging practices are followed during lifting and lowering operations. Maintain detailed and accurate site documentation, including daily reports, safety checklists, and photos. Communicate clearly with supervisors, project managers, and subcontractors regarding job progress and challenges. Enforce and adhere to company and industry safety standards, including use of PPE and fall protection systems. Operate and inspect company vehicles, trailers, and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and readiness.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of tower climbing and wireless construction experience. Proven leadership skills and ability to direct and support crew members in the field. Advanced knowledge of wireless site components, including LTE, 5G, microwave, and DAS systems. Fire Extinguisher Ladder Safety Certifications required: ComTrain or equivalent tower safety and rescue training
OSHA 10/30
(as required) RF Awareness First Aid/CPR Rigging Certification (preferred) Proficient in reading construction drawings and scopes of work (SOWs). Ability to operate test equipment such as Anritsu, PIM testers, and fiber scopes. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record Willingness to travel and work overtime, weekends, or nights as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb and work at heights for extended periods. Lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions. Comfortable working in remote or challenging environments.
