46 Annually Location City of Coral Gables, FL Job Type Full-time Job Number 1009 Department Public Works Department Opening Date 06/17/2025 + Description + Benefits + Questions Summary Performs specialized semi-skilled maintenance repair work assisting journeymen in the maintenance of sewer facilities and equipment. Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Checks stations daily to ensure they are working properly. Cleans pump station buildings which includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, pressure cleaning, etc. Replaces broken sump pumps when needed. Assists mechanics pulling pumps. Inspects and maintains vehicle ensuring it is in good working order. Checks storm sewer stations. Performs preventative maintenance, detects problems and makes system operator repairs and troubleshooting. Operates tools and equipment such as pipe cutter, hand tools, power tools, generator, pressure cleaner, jack hammer, hoist and all related safety equipment. Cleans equipment and makes minor repairs. Responds as required to emergencies such as hurricanes and other disasters. Completes written activity summaries and reports. Maintains records. Assists with the preparation for special events, including after hours events. Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions. Conforms with all safety rules which include wearing and using all appropriate safety equipment. Locates lines in conformances with policies and rules of the Sewer Division. Performs a variety of installations, maintenance and repair work including but not limited to installation, maintenance and repairs to lift stations inclusive of plumbing, carpentry, minor electrical and general maintenance. Performs other related tasks as required. Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Two (2) years of semi-skilled maintenance and repair experience as a helper to a journeyman is required. Must have a Class

B CDL. A

HOLIDAYS

15 days including 3 floating days.

SICK LEAVE

96 hours annually.

ANNUAL LEAVE

80 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 188 hours after 25 years. Employees must take 40 hours of annual leave each year.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

5 or 10 work days for the death of a family member in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and the City’s Personnel Rules & Regulations.

MEDICAL INSURANCE

Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents at a cost of approximately 50% of the premium.

DENTAL INSURANCE

Available to all employees through payroll deduction.

LIFE INSURANCE

: Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment equal to 1 x annual salary, fully paid by the City (up to $200,000).

VOLUNTARY BENEFITS

Several plans available, such as Short-Term Disability, Life Insurance and Critical Illness policies through payroll deductions.

LEGAL SERVICES

Legal Service plan available at a cost to employees through payroll deductions.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

Employees are given the option to defer a portion of their pre-tax salary into the 457 Deferred Compensation Program.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT

$2000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) for approved college coursework.

SAFETY GLASSES

Required safety glasses are provided every 2 years.
