Full Job Description Summary:
This entry level position will perform a variety of manual tasks involving physical labor at building highway, and heavy construction projects and to assist in safe and efficient paving operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary functions will include assisting Traffic Control Technician in Maintenance of Traffic duties per DOT Specifications to ensure safe working conditions for crew members and safe environment for traveling public. Under supervision, assist in clearing and preparing highway work zones and rights-of-way. Set out and pick up traffic barricades, cones, and markers. Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones by use of flag or paddle. Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; properly follow all Company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred. Previous experience working outdoors is required. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions; communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public. Mechanical aptitude is desirable. Previous experience in operating various types of heavy equipment preferred, but not required. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel, walk, talk, see, hear, push, pull, climb, bend and stoop. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit (for up to 8 eight hours), walk (occasionally on rough terrain/in varying weather conditions), climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.
