INTERNAL
POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply. This posting is for a Transportation Worker II for the Division 13 Traffic Services Unit. This position will serve throughout the Division. This position will be required to communicate using various radio systems, as well as possibly maintaining signs, signposts, and hardware inventories, serving on a sign, long-line paint, or thermoplastic special pavement marking crew. The employee will operate and maintain a variety of small hand and power tools; serve as a sign erector; haul paint supplies and flag traffic. The employee must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members, other departments, and the public. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with various people and work in outside environment, including extreme heat and cold, year-round. Employee will be subject to emergency callback for detour and inclement weather (Snow and Ice Removal).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience in the installation of traffic control such as detours and lane closures.
Experience in the operation of at least one of the following: air compressor, forklift, dump truck, vibrator roller compactor, front end loader, backhoe, tractor trailer, truck mounted crane, lattice crane, rubber tire excavator, tractor with attachment, auger or track excavator, asphalt distributor, asphalt tanker, chip spreader, crawler tractor, motor grader, scraper, track loader, widening machine, asphalt paving machine, track excavator, computer controlled pesticide applicator, paint machine Experience working on a Pavement Marker/Delineator crew or a Special Marking Crew.
Experience in the installation of roadway signs.
Additional Expectations:
Must be able to lift or carry up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move object. Safety toe footwear will be required. The employee will be required to work hours other than regular schedule due to emergencies and heavy workloads. The employee should be familiar with or be able to learn to use small hand tools needed for installing and maintaining signs. This position is labor intensive, and the employee will be required to work in a diverse working environment; in all weather conditions, heavy traffic, and traffic moving at high speed. The employee must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Necessary Special Requirements:
Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
